One of the toughest parts of running a home-based business is separating your work from your folks and social life.

1. First, make a work schedule and keep it going. It could be enticing to answer private calls in the day or take business calls after-hours, but doing this basically shows that you are expendable, not devoted and folk will take for granted that you will always be there?for any small things that come up. Though family comes first, stay true to your business hours and fight the urge to talk with buddies or pick up groceries during working hours.
2. Your chums may consider working from home, an invite to talk in the day or simply go out for coffee or purchasing an afternoon. Make it obvious that your business hours are just that is for business. Leave private calls for after-hours, and you will find that your pals will continuously accept your schedule without feeling slighted.
3. Simply because you need to set up a work schedule, does not mean that you must keep the same hours as everybody else. One of the advantages of working for yourself is setting your own hours to fit your most productive times. Whether you’re an early bird or a night owl, you will find that you’ll get much more done when you are attuned to your body’s own natural rhythms. Some folks work in the morning, take five in the afternoon when the youngsters are home from college, and work again in the evening.

This also gives your business a more pro appearance to clients than if you and your folks make and receive calls from the same telephone line.
5. If at all possible attempt to separate your house office from the remainder of your house. If you do not have the posh of a new room, a room partition or screen can be just as useful. This also serves as a visible cue to family that you are working and should not be worried.
6. Dress and act professionally whilst working. Some people find it beneficial to dress in casual business clothes during their working hours. This braces that simply because you’re working from home does not make you any less of a pro. Answer the telephone with your name, or company name, and keep your kids off the telephone during business hours. Also, spend money making an investment in the tools you want to do your job right. A cell telephone, facsimile machine or a budget PC can help turn your house office into a real workspace.
If you follow all these tips and stick with them, possibilities are you will find a routine that not only causes you to feel productive and active in your business, but also projects the message that you mean business literally!
